Insights on DNA Repair Enzymes from Computational Simulations

Abstract: Replication and repair of DNA are critical processes. Errors in either of these transactions can result in mutations, some of which can lead to disease or even death. Detailed understanding of the enzymes involved in these processes could be useful for new diagnostic or therapeutic treatments. We have developed several computational methods to study biomolecules, and have applied them to DNA repair and replication systems. Some of these novel methods will be discussed as well as the results obtained from their application to DNA polymerase lambda and the DNA dealkylase AlkB.
