Abstract:   Cycloadditions have been applied to synthesis, material chemistry and chemical biology. Examples of each of these, and our group’s involvement will be described. The distortion/interaction model for reactivity in Diels-Alder and 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions has become a robust method to understand reactivity. Molecular dynamics simulations of Huisgen’s 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions and Diels-Alder reactions provide information on the timing of bond formation, leading to time-resolved information about mechanisms.
